Allegheny County adds 46 new coronavirus cases, 3 deaths
The Allegheny County Health Department reported 46 new coronavirus cases and three new deaths on Wednesday.
Those new cases bring the county’s total to 11,867 since the first case was reported on March 14.
The state is reporting 354 deaths in Allegheny County, which differs from the county health department’s report of 376 deaths. The discrepancy has been attributed to different reporting methods.
The three deaths range from Sept. 10-14, with one person in the 50s, one in the 80s and one in the 90s. Two of the deaths are associated with long-term care facilities.
Older county residents have been hit the hardest, with 84% of the county’s deaths occurring in residents 70 or older:
- 0-19: 0
- 20-29: 1
- 30-39: 1
- 40-49: 3
- 50-59: 16
- 60-69: 41
- 70+: 314
Of the 46 cases, 17 are confirmed and 29 are probable. The new cases, which came from 733 PCR tests, range from 13 to 90 years old, with a median age of 49. The test dates range from Sept. 18-21.
The age groups of the newly reported cases — 23 male and 23 female — are:
- 0-4: 0
- 5-12: 0
- 13-18: -1
- 19-24: 9
- 25-49: 12
- 50-64: 13
- 65+: 13
Allegheny County has the third-highest total of cases in the state, following Philadelphia (31,254) and Montgomery (12,028), with Delaware (11,233) the only other county above 10,000 cases.
According to the state’s covid-19 dashboard, there are currently 41 coronavirus patients hospitalized in the county with seven requiring ventilators. The county has 816 ventilators, with 185 in use, but only seven by covid-19 patients.
Since March, the county reports that 1,185 people have been hospitalized, with 293 admitted to the intensive care unit and 108 requiring mechanical ventilation.
