Allegheny County adds 215 new covid cases over 2 days, no new deaths
The Allegheny County Health Department announced 99 new cases of covid-19 on Monday. In addition, the department said 116 cases were added Sunday.
The latest cases, which come from tests conducted between Oct. 12-18, range in age from 3 to 99 years old, with a median age of 41 years.
Of the 215 cases over the past two days, the county reports 185 cases have been confirmed, while 30 are probable. Among the probable cases, seven are from positive antigen tests.
The positivity rate for Allegheny County’s latest batch of cases is 7.8%. Over the past seven days, the county has added 812 new cases (the most since Aug. 4), with an average of 1,422 tests per day with a 8.16% positivity rate.
The county reported no new deaths over the past two days.
The new cases — 123 of which are females, 92 males — break down among age groups as follows:
- Ages 0-4: 5
- Ages 5-12: 10
- Ages 13-18: 19
- Ages 19-24: 21
- Ages 25-49: 82
- Ages 50-64: 39
- Ages 65 and older: 39
According to the state’s covid-19 tracking website, there are 113 county residents currently hospitalized with the virus, 13 of them on ventilators. According to the state, there are 804 operational ventilators in the county, with 187 (23.3%) currently in use for all illnesses. To date, 1,341 residents have been hospitalized for the virus, with three new hospitalizations announced by the county Monday.
As of Monday, Allegheny County is reporting more than 10,000 residents are considered to be “recovered.” Cases are considered to be “recovered” after it’s been 32 days since the person was hospitalized for covid-19 and not deceased or, if they weren’t hospitalized within 14 days of testing positive.
The county’s website is reporting outcomes in 10,424 cases — with 10,019 assumed to be recovered and 405 deaths. The current recovery rate for those whose case has an outcome is just over 96%. Out of the county’s total covid-19 cases, 3,750 cases remain without an assumed outcome.
Officials continue to report no new cases at the Allegheny County Jail, and no inmates with the virus in the facility. To date, 556 inmates have been tested, with 38 of them testing positive — all of whom have either recovered or been released. The county is still awaiting test results from two inmates. Among the jail’s workers, the county reports 15 positive cases, with all but one recovered. A total of 128 employees have been tested, with 112 negative and one test pending results.
Since the pandemic began in March, 210,794 county residents have been tested for the virus, with 196,620 reported negative — meaning 93.3% of those tested have been negative.
