A Jeep crashed into a Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus on Wednesday.

Nine people suffered what officials described as non-life-threatening injuries late Wednesday morning when a Jeep crashed into a Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus, shattering its windshield.

The crash happened around 11 a.m. at Allequippa Street and Sutherland Drive in Oakland near the University of Pittsburgh campus when a Jeep swerved around stopped traffic, crossed the center line and hit the bus head-on, transit spokesman Adam Brandolph told the Tribune-Review.

No conditions of those injured were available Wednesday, though Brandolph said “all of the injuries were considered to be non-serious.”

Brandolph declined to identify the driver of the Jeep, but said that driver was among those taken to the hospital. No charges have been filed against that driver and the crash remains under investigation, he said.

Brandolph also declined to identify the driver of the 83-Bedford Hill bus traveling outbound on Allequippa Street toward the South Side, but said the bus driver appeared not to be at fault.

“The driver of the bus will not be placed on any sort of leave since their actions are not believed to have contributed to this crash,” he said.
