Six people were transported to local hospitals after a crash Sunday morning required multiple emergency crews and a hillside rescue in southern Allegheny County, firefighters said.

First responders were called to Mahoney Road around 3 a.m. Sunday in North Fayette for a report of a single-vehicle crash. Three people who told firefighters they were thrown from the vehicle had to be rescued after falling about 50 feet over a hillside, North Fayette VFD officials said.

Due to the steepness of the slope, rescuers employed a rope system to load patients into a stable basket and bring them up the hillside.

Two more people who’d been injured were trapped in the vehicle, and a sixth person was wounded but walking when emergency crews arrived, according to fire officials.

All six people were flown or transported to area hospitals. Their conditions were not released.
