It’s the final weekend of February. Here are some ways to spend it.

Beer here

The Pittsburgh Winter Beer Fest is Friday through Sunday at the David Lawrence Convention Center. Approximately 400 local, regional and hard-to-find craft beers from more than 130 breweries — including Fat Head’s Brewery, Penn Brewery, Hop Farm Brewing Co., East End Brewing Company — will be part of of the event.

The event raises money for Animal Rescue Partners, a non-profit that supports numerous animal rescues, pet adoption groups, and community spay/neuter programs.

Polar Plunge

Special Olympics Pennsylvania’s Pittsburgh Polar Plunge is back and in-person this weekend. The 12th annual event is Friday and Saturday at Heinz Field. People can take a dip in a pool on Art Rooney Avenue.

On Friday, area high school students will participate.

The Super Plunge will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. A group of men and woman will plunge into a cold pool of water more than 24 times over an eight-hour period. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, iHeart Radio’s Randy Baumann from the WDVE Morning Show, Chad Tyson from 102.5, J.D. Green from 104.7, and Jonny Hartwell from 94.5 3WS will help kick off the festivities.

Free parking is available in Gold Lot 1 on the North Shore.

Movie nights

The 2022 Oscar Shorts program opens Friday at the Harris Theater, Downtown.

Separate screenings will feature the animated, documentary and live-action short films from around the world that have been nominated for Academy Awards, to be announced March 27. The Harris is one of more than 350 theaters across the country to debut the program.

Filmgoers will be given ballots to vote for winners in each category.

Tickets are $11.

Flamingo Fest

Flamingo Fest is from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at The National Aviary on the North Side. Guests can participate in a scavenger hunt, see how they measure up next a flamingo height chart, and take home a flamingo-themed craft.

A talk will be held at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. both days. There will be a storytime reading of “Marco Flamingo” by author Sheila Jarkins. Tickets are $17.95 for adults, $14.95 for children. Children under 2 are free.

Return of the Jedi

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will be performing the musical score of “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi” in concert. Shows are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Heinz Hall, Downtown.

Assistant conductor Jacob Joyce will lead the orchestra in Oscar-winning composer John Williams’ musical score, along with a complete screening of the 1983 film.

Williams is known for scoring all eight of the Star Wars films.

Tickets start at $25.
