3 McCandless Republican council members lose seats to Democrats

Three incumbent Republican McCandless Council members lost their bids for re-election in Tuesday’s election, according to unofficial Allegheny County election results.

With all precincts reporting, Democrat Laureen Alt defeated Republican incumbent Jack Casey in Ward 2; Democrat Jack Hickerson defeated Republican incumbent Jason Singer in Ward 4; and Democrat Nathan Babich defeated Republican incumbent Don Hart in Ward 6.

Alt, 63, is a retired postal service manager who has lived in McCandless for 20 years. Hickerson, 25, works as a recovery clerk and has lived in McCandless for nine years. Babich, 35, is a canvassing director who has lived in McCandless for six years.

Members of the seven-member council are elected to four-year terms.

Vote counts according to unofficial Allegheny County election results:

Ward 2

Laureen Alt (D): 853

Jack Casey (R): 837

Ward 4

Jack Hickerson (D): 820

Jason Singer (R): 785

Ward 6

Nathan Babich (D): 897

Don Hart (R): 785
