2-hour standoff ends with man's arrest in Hill District
A man was in the Allegheny County Jail Thursday in connection with a Hill District shooting.
Vincent Brunson, 29, whose home address is unknown, is charged with criminal trespassing, recklessly endangering another person and a weapons charge. He is in county jail on $10,000 bail.
Shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, Pittsburgh police responded to a ShotSpotter alert for shots fired in the 2500 block of Bedford Avenue, located in the Bedford Dwellings housing complex in the Hill District.
Two men, one of whom was later identified as Brunson, were shooting at each other when arriving officers saw Brunson run into an apartment building with six units inside, police said.
A SWAT team was called to ensure the occupants’ safety and several apartments were evacuated, according to a criminal complaint. Police had said a woman reported that her apartment was locked when it should not have been.
Police received a search warrant from a district judge for an apartment on the 2400 block of Bedford Avenue and entered the unit around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday, the criminal complaint said. After entering the apartment, SWAT located the suspect and took him into custody.
Brunson, who also was wanted on a warrant, was arraigned Thursday and has a preliminary hearing March 16.
The investigation is ongoing.
