Members of the 1970 and 1971 Richland High School graduating classes gathered for a combined reunion the weekend of Aug. 12.

Festivities included a tour of Richland Elementary that Friday afternoon.

The elementary school, which today houses students in kindergarten through third grade, was Richland High School until 1993, when the current high school opened.

Bonnie Shields Adler, a 1971 graduate, said their tour of the school was “awesome.”

“Even though the school was in major remodel, the ‘70/’71 classmates were amazed with the transformation of the school we graduated from into a beautiful, bright elementary school,” she said.

The classes had a casual meet-and-mingle Friday evening at the DoubleTree.

They toured the high school with Principal Frank Hernandez the morning of Aug. 13. Hernandez, the assistant principal since joining the district in August 2021, was named principal in June to replace Nancy Bowman.

“The tour ended with seeing the stadium in its glory because it was opening day of youth football,” Adler said.

The main event of the reunion weekend was a dinner that Saturday evening back at the DoubleTree.

Each class had separate gatherings on Aug. 14 — the 1970 classmates attended a pizza party at a private home, while the 1971 class enjoyed a picnic at Pine Community Park.

Adler said it was a memorable weekend.

“My husband and I are Pine-Richland residents, and we were so thrilled to show off our district,” she said.
