A man was fatally shot by Forest Hills police officers who responded to a call along Ardmore Boulevard on Sunday morning after he fired a gun at them, according to authorities.

Two Forest Hills police officers were dispatched to the the 2300 block of Ardmore Boulevard at 10:19 a.m. for a report of a man yelling at people and lifting his shirt to display a handgun, according to a news release from Allegheny County Police. Forest Hills police asked county homicide detectives to assist with the investigation.

The man was identified as Marcus Allen, 38, of Pittsburgh, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office.

The responding officers found Allen walking in the street on Yost Boulevard near Ardmore Manor Drive and tried to speak with him, investigators said. Allen pulled out a gun and began shooting at the officers, who returned fire, striking him multiple times, police said.

Allen was transported to UPMC Mercy hospital after being shot Sunday. He later died at the hospital.

One of the shots allegedly fired by Allen struck an officer’s pants leg but the officer was not injured, police said.

County police said all of the information gathered during the investigation will be provided to the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office, which is responsible for reviewing police-involved shootings to determine if officers’ actions are justified.

County police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call investigators at 1-833-ALL-TIPS, or 1-833-255-8477. Callers can remain anonymous.
