One person died, another was critically injured and two emergency responders suffered injuries late Sunday in a fire at a Downtown Pittsburgh apartment building.
Pittsburgh Public Safety said police, firefighters and paramedics responded to a five-alarm fire just after 10:30 p.m. at The Roosevelt Building at Penn Avenue and Sixth Street.
The fire was believed to have started in an apartment on the 12th floor and was contained to that floor.
Police said one person was pronounced dead at the scene. Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV reported that person was found in a stairwell. The person’s name has not been released.
Another person was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said.
A firefighter was treated on scene for minor injuries, while a medic was taken to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The fire was declared under control around 12:15 a.m., police said.
Police said 106 people were in the building at the time of the fire. They sheltered in place or sought shelter in area buildings for warmth.
About 75 people spent the night in a shelter that the American Red Cross set up at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. The Salvation Army was assisting Monday morning, according to the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
This is not the first fire at the building this year. Late on Jan. 30, a person smoking in bed in a 10th-floor apartment caused a mattress fire that led to the evacuation of the building.
