Like it or not, it’s time to prepare for winter driving. The folks at AAA East Central offer these tips to prep your vehicle for cold and snow:
• Have your battery tested if it is more than three years old, to ensure it is strong enough to endure cold weather.
• Replace worn windshield-wiper blades. In harsh climates, buy one-piece, beam-type or rubber-clad “winter” blades to fight snow and ice buildup. Use cold-weather windshield washer solvent.
• Make sure tires have at least 4/32-inch tread depth, as worn tires can affect ability to stop on slick roads. Consider getting snow tires.
• Carry an emergency kit, with sand or cat litter, small shovel, flashlight, ice scraper or snow brush, booster cables, blanket, gloves or mittens, flares or reflective triangles.
