Travel tip: AAA warns against using vehicle technology en route
A study from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety says that using in-vehicle infotainment and navigation systems while en route could be a potentially dangerous distraction — especially comparing drivers ages 55-75 to those ages 21-36.
That’s because it takes the older group longer to do tasks involving voice commands and touch screens.
While AAA discourages all drivers from using in-vehicle technology while driving, except in the case of emergency, the study recommends automakers design systems to meet the safety and comfort needs of older drivers — a fast-growing demographic that by 2030 will make up 20% of U.S. drivers.
