A 15-foot great white shark is moving up the coast toward the Outer Banks.

Researchers are tracking the 2,137-pound fish as it migrates past South Carolina on course for North Carolina’s beaches.

OCEARCH, a nonprofit that tags and tracks sharks, reports that the female shark, named Luna, was detected May 9 off Charleston.

Luna had traveled down the coast from Nova Scotia to Florida and then made a U-turn toward the Outer Banks. The shark’s path can be traced on the OCEARCH website.

OCEARCH is currently tracking eight great white sharks off North Carolina and South Carolina, reports The Charlotte Observer.

Four of them are off the Outer Banks, OCEARCH tells The Charlotte Observer.

OCEARCH tracks sharks and other marine life so researchers can learn about migration patterns.
