Everything a sportsman or woman would need for a well- appointed hunting camp was up for auction at the Ruffed Grouse Society Western Allegheny Chapter’s 29th annual Conservation and Sportsmen’s Banquet.

From wildlife-themed artwork to rustic kitchenware to plush beds for a hard-working hunting dog, it filled the tables at the Jan. 31 event held at Rizzo’s Banquet Hall in Crabtree.

Two of the more unusual items incorporated deer antlers — a coat rack employing spikes for hooks and a woven basket with antlers for a handle.

Auctioneer Larry Hendrick also managed the bidding on a number of firearms from Hi-Grade Shooters Supply in Youngwood. Listed among the shotguns and pistols was a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun, much like the one coveted by Ralphie Parker in “A Christmas Story.”

Attendees came together to raise funds for and to celebrate the society’s efforts in conserving and improving woodland habitats for ruffed grouse, American woodcock and other forest wildlife.

Expect an even bigger bash next year for the 3oth anniversary, said regional director Lisa Rossi.

Event committee members were Daniel Dunlap III, Jill Dunlap, Wayne H. Freed, Joe Frederick, Lisa Frederick, Rick Herd, Roy McMahan and Tracey McMahan.
