Event committee (from left) Rosanne Bodziak, Joe Bellack, Lauren Buches and Kevin Miscik gather for a photo April 27 during The Art of Fashion: Pretty in Pink, presented by the Latrobe Art Center at the Latrobe Country Club.

Taking on a Project Runway-style challenge, a group of Greater Latrobe Senior High School students created clothing from upcycled materials for Latrobe Art Center’s The Art of Fashion: Pretty in Pink fashion show.

In the young designers’ talented hands, thrift store sheets became a floaty, feminine summer dress and old dad jeans got new life as a two-tone sleeveless shift, a messenger bag and other trendy teen togs.

Guests at the runway event, held April 27 at Latrobe Country Club, also saw what was new from Chicora’s Boutique in Latrobe; Black Bunny Boutique, My Honey Bee and Tree House in Ligonier; and Crossroads Boutique & Cattiva, Lapels: A Fine Men’s Clothier and Liz Krajc Jewelry Design Studio in Greensburg.

Art center executive director Lauren Buches — herself pretty in a pink body con sheath — introduced the show with the story of how she became interested in fashion through a college history project on the Victorian era. She told more than 130 guests that she spent her senior year dressed in a Victorian-goth hybrid style.

Buches gave special thanks to principal event organizers Kevin Miscik, Rosanne Bodziak and Joe Bellack, and to Greater Latrobe stage crew students for building the runway. Jake Falbo served as emcee.

Also on the event committee: Judy Boyd, Courtney Coss, Stephany Frede, Carol Gaffey, Leigh Gaul, Karen Gross, Lydia Mack, Janet Mason, Linda Miller, Brenda Shaffer, Charles Shepard and Sharon Shepard.
