Out & About: Many hands contribute to 'Collaborations' art show
Many hands make light work, the saying goes — they also make beautiful art, illustrated by “Collaborations,” a new exhibition in the Greensburg Art Center that features pieces made by two or more artists.
The show opened with a reception Feb. 1 and runs through March 21.
Displayed in the Hempfield center’s Rowe Gallery are 32 pieces in various media created by a total of 68 artists.
Art center president Susan Kiren and her daughter Emily Kiren entered a painting of nine pairs of shoes, from sneakers to spike heels. Look closely at the footwear, and you’ll find that each pair references a masterpiece by such artists as Salvador Dali, Vincent Van Gogh and Pittsburgh’s own Andy Warhol.
Art center member Rose Sovyak’s whole bridge group contributed a whimsical, bedazzled painting of a bicycle. Sovyak said that during games, whoever had the dummy hand (thereby sitting out that round of play) was required to work on the painting.
As Rod Stewart once sang, every picture in the exhibition tells a story.
“Collaborations” was chaired by Sovyak and Marcie Koynok.
Seen at the opening: Bill Kiren, Jeff Kiren, Doris Wood, Barbara Ferrier, Jerry Scorpion, Richard and Eileen Stoner, Sue Pollins, Bob and Pat Majcher, Gloria Gonzalez, Phil and Mary Ellen Raneri, Bill and Peg Panasiti, Cathy Rosensteel, Vince and Sue Hrubes, Doreen Currie, Bob Keefe and Hans and Gudrun Garkisch.
