The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Ligonier Valley invited guests to journey down the rabbit hole for its 18th annual Garden Party.

The “Alice in Wonderland”-themed event July 27 began with a reception in the museum and continued with dinner and more revelry up the road at the Ligonier Country Club.

At the museum, guests were greeted by “The View From My Easel,” an exhibition of Mid-Atlantic seascapes by New Jersey-based artist Stan Sperlak, who was on hand for the party. Sperlak, a descendant of a Slovakian immigrant who worked in the coal mines of Fayette County, displayed 65 pastel renderings of scenes from South Jersey, Delaware and Maryland.

At the country club, there was dinner, music by the Rick Purcell Band, live and silent auctions and flamingo croquet.

No one seemed quite as mad as a hatter, but some guests dressed as characters straight from Lewis Carroll’s imagination, including Jill Briercheck, Bill and Bonnie Hoffman, Charlotte Ross and Jerry and Joan Hawk.

Party co-chairs were Patty Jones and Joyce Collins.

Also seen: SAMA executive director Vanessa Houser with husband John Paul Houser, SAMA-Ligonier Valley site coordinator Kristin Miller, Rob and Susan Endersbe, George and Olive Conte, Jerry and June Penta, Jo Ellen Numerick, Smokey and Sheila Burdin, Jaime Cooper, Bruce and Rita Haldeman, Jill Pifferetti, Garrett Bowden, Gary Costlow, Mark Renowden, George and Lorrie Zitnay, Helen Morosini, Larry and Pat Smitley, John and Mary Campfield, Bernard and Renee Seifert, Cheryl Wood, Bill Fritz and Tina Sperlak, a cousin of the featured artist who traveled from Denver, Colo., for the event.
