Out & About: Library board members show their artistic talents
You can visit the Greensburg Hempfield Area Library to borrow books, movies and music; read magazines; use computers; or take in one of their many programs.
While there, you also can view the work of local artists in regular “Picture This at the Library” exhibitions, a joint venture of the library and the Greensburg Art Center.
Through Feb. 15, there’s a special exhibit featuring artwork created by five library board members: paintings and wood carvings by George Church, stippled pen-and-ink drawings by Mary Lou Hugus, photography by Andrea Moffatt, miniature tableaux by Judy Hobbs Mizikar and mosaics made with seeds, beans and grains by David Vale.
During a Feb. 7 reception, assistant library director Diane Ciabattoni credited the idea for the exhibit to Church: “He said ‘We’re talented — why not us?’ ”
Why not indeed?
Mizikar and Hugus said the show also is a way to introduce board members to the community and to involve them in the everyday workings of the library.
Library director Jamie Falo gave a warm welcome on a snowy night to reception guests, including George Mizikar, Matt Moffat, Magdelyn Vale, Barbara Ferrier, Diane Hartland, Keith and Shirleah Kelly, Bob and Pat Majcher, Fred and Rosemary Sovyak, Jack and Terral Schneider, Michael and Joanne Caffrey and Jon and Nina Lewis.
