Time is at a premium during this busy season. It’s good when you can kill two birds (or maybe three) with one stone, so to speak.

Teri Bowes of Hempfield invited a group of friends to do just that on Nov. 18. She was the winner of a shopping party evening to benefit the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra offered by Kevin Miscik, owner of Lapels A Fine Mens’ Clothier in Greensburg.

In the store already decked out for the holidays, Miscik provided a discount on purchases, along with hors d’oeuvres, wine, chocolates and complimentary gift-wrapping. Attendees were able to get a jump on holiday shopping while socializing and contributing to a good cause, with a portion of sales going to symphony coffers.

Miscik said he has hosted the shopping party benefit for several other local nonprofits.

“I brought the concept here from Larrimor’s in Pittsburgh, and it’s working,” he said.
