Out & About: Administrators' group honors volunteer of the year
Members of the Westmoreland Association of Volunteer Administrators gathered Dec. 19 at Ferrante’s Lakeview in Hempfield for their annual meeting and holiday luncheon.
The festivities included recognizing Joy Klohonatz of Greensburg as WAVA Volunteer of the Year.
Klohonatz is a relationship marketing specialist with SendOutCards, an online greeting card creation and delivery system.
A former store manager for Kmart, she is also a speaker and coach, community volunteer and member of various boards of directors. She is a co-founder of Angela’s Angels, which provides prom gowns and accessories to junior and senior high school students in need.
“Joy has spent much of her life making a positive difference in people’s lives,” said Angela Rose O’Brien, Angela’s Angels founder.
University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg senior Jana Withers was named Emerging Volunteer of the Year for her work with AseraCare Hospice.
Established in 1980, WAVA’s mission is to help Westmoreland County organizations using volunteers to improve skills in managing, recruiting and retaining volunteers through networking and training. The group also compiles a Volunteer Opportunity Guide and sponsors the annual “Find Your Fit” volunteer fair.
Officers are Louise Wilhelm, president; Elaine Frantz, vice president; Barb Christner, secretary, and Dina Haeflein, treasurer. Tierney Guarascio is volunteer director.
