Allegheny Steel baseball team to be reinstated

After a conference between officials and employees of Allegheny Steel in Brackenridge, 1,000 workers signed a petition to reconsider disbanding the baseball team. A ball club will be placed on the field in 1920 with former Kansas City and New York player Jack Osnow as manager.

Glassmere youth is Nazi prisoner

Private First Class John Petruny of Glassmere, East Deer, has been revealed as a prisoner of war of Germany. He was first listed as missing in action in Italy on Nov. 18. Petruny was a 1943 East Deer Township High graduate.

Suit threatened against Oakmont School District

Legal action will be taken against the Oakmont School Board if it doesn’t abandon its $2.4 million building program. An attorney said board action should be delayed since a move to merge Oakmont with the Verona School District is currently in court.

Protest blocks Clark move

More than 60 desperate employees of the D.L. Clark Co. blocked the company’s driveway to prevent its new owner, Leaf, Inc. from removing equipment from the idle RIDC Park factory. Leaf said it plans to make the Clark bar outside of Pittsburgh.

Pyle expected to recover from tumor surgery

State Rep. Jeff Pyle, R-Ford City, is expected to return home soon after successful surgery to remove a cancerous tumor on a kidney. The freshman lawmaker is on track to resume his duties in several weeks.

Council OKs 5% amusement tax

Concert-goers and pro wrestling fans attending events at the Ches-A-Rena will soon see an extra tax on their tickets. Cheswick Council voted 5-0 to establish a borough amusement tax designed to help pay for police and clean-up after events.

Apollo-Ridge lists delinquent taxpayers

The Apollo-Ridge School District now lists delinquent taxpayers on its website, hoping to prod property owners to pay up. The total amount owed on 757 pieces of property is about $750,000.
