New Alexandria demolition derbies benefit those in need
Competitors and spectators revved up for some motorized mayhem will get their wish when the New Alexandria Lions Club’s demolition derbies return for another season, beginning Saturday .
The derbies have been an annual tradition since the 1970s at the Lions Arena, at 1874 Lions Club Road, off Route 119 just south of Route 22. The club uses money raised through the events to help residents in need.
Seven Crash-A-Rama events are planned for the 2019 regular season. All events begin at 8 p.m., with gates opening at 6 p.m. Admission costs $9, $4 for children age 12 or younger. A pit pass costs $20.
Vehicle classes include compact and full-size stock cars, mowers and mini trucks and vans.
After the opening night, events will follow on May 31 and June 15. June 28 will be Cancer Awareness Night, July 13 Military Appreciation Night and July 26 Fan Appreciation Night. Championship Night is set for Aug. 10.
The arena also will play host to the Watt’s Truck Center 12th Annual Truck and Equipment Show from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 17, with free admission.
More information is available on the club’s demolition derby Facebook page.
