Ligonier Country Market branches out with monthly evening vendors
Ligonier Country Market’s popular Saturday morning array of food and artisan vendor booths is expanding this year — to include a monthly evening market.
Partnering with the Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce, the market will offer about 40 produce and processed food vendors from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month, from June through October, at the recently renovated Ligonier Diamond Park. The scheduled dates are June 18, July 16, Aug. 20, Sept. 17 and Oct. 15.
The Ligonier Night Market will bring a new shopping and entertainment experience to town on those Thursday evenings, noted Ruthie Stewart, events and marketing coordinator for the chamber. “You’ll be able to pick up all your vegetables, and a lot of the Ligonier merchants are going to be open later for this,” she said.
Market patrons also will be able to enjoy live music on the Diamond bandstand and dining in Ligonier’s restaurants. “It’s almost like a block party once a month,” Stewart said.
The Thursday night schedule gives shoppers a chance to kick off the weekend a day early.
“Depending on your work schedule, it can be hard to visit the merchants in town or even the market on Saturday,” Stewart said, noting the night market provides “a brand new opportunity to do both.”
“This collaboration is something we have been talking about for a long time,” said Cari Frei, executive director of the Ligonier Country Market. “The LCM vendors are excited to move up to the Diamond and work alongside the Ligonier merchants.”
April Kinzler of AKO Designs created a new night market logo that combines the scarecrow figure that is used to publicize the Saturday market with the bandstand image of the chamber’s logo.
A list of participating vendors and scheduled bands will be available closer to the June 18 opening of the night market.
Marking its 45th season, the Ligonier Country Market will open for the year at 8 a.m. May 16 at the Loyalhanna Watershed Farm, 110 Andi Lane, off Old Lincoln Highway at the west end of Ligonier.
