Cedar Point’s GateKeeper roller coaster is the first ride the greets visitors at the Sandusky, Ohio, park.

Cedar Point announced Tuesday it will begin a phased reopening for the 2020 season, starting with Season Passholders only.

In a statement on the park’s website, the company said it “has put stringent health, safety and hygiene protocols in place to allow a safe opening.”

On July 9 and 10, the Sandusky, Ohio, park will open to Gold and Platinum Passholders only. On July 11, Cedar Point Resorts guests and 2020 Season Passholders will also be permitted into the park.

“The safety of all of our guests and associates has always been, and will always be our top priority,” said Jason McClure, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. “We’re looking forward to returning to summertime fun in a safe and healthy manner.”

In order to maintain a limited capacity in the park, all guests — including Season, Gold or Platinum Passholders — will be required to make a reservation to visit the park either on the Cedar Point mobile app or online at cedarpoint.com.

Reservation availability for guests who have not yet purchased a park ticket will be announced at a later date.

Guests will be required to wear a mask at all times in the park and asked to maintain social distancing of at least six feet.

All guests also must complete a health screening declaration in the park’s app 24 hours before entering the park. In addition, all guests will undergo a touchless temperature screening before entering the park.

Other safety protocols put in place include “touchless transactions, limited guest/associate contact, enhanced cleaning procedures in high-touch areas, dining locations, hotel rooms and restrooms, capacity management through the park and additional hand sanitization stations.”

The park previously announced that Hotel Breakers and Lighthouse Point RV sites will be open from June 12-27.
