There’s more spooky season fun this weekend in the Pittsburgh area — and that’s not all there is to do.

Not-so-scary ZooBoo

ZooBoo, the annual kid-friendly Halloween celebration, is planned for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and Oct. 29-30, at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium in Highland Park.

The event will feature not-so-scary special haunts, crafts, magic, treats and costumed characters. Young visitors can participate in a Halloween parade, dance and costume contest and observe animals enjoying Halloween treats throughout the park.

ZooBoo activities are included with regular daytime zoo admission. For information and tickets, visit pittsburghzoo.org.

Manchester modern architecture

The Pittsburgh Modern Committee and Manchester Historic Society will host Manchester Modern, a walking tour of the Pittsburgh North Side neighborhood, from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The event will begin with coffee, treats and a behind-the-scenes tour at Fulton Commons, a contemporary co-working space and kitchen incubator in the former St. Joseph’s School. The tour will continue at the 1960s modernist-style Manchester Elementary School, then meander through residential streets to Bidwell Presbyterian Church, where an interior tour is planned.

Tour-goers will receive a printed guide map of modern architecture in Manchester and the North Side. The guide is part of “Modern Survey,” a new series curated by the Pittsburgh Modern Committee covering mid-20th century architecture, public art and design in various Pittsburgh neighborhoods.

The $15 tour ticket is available at Manchester Modern on eventbrite.com.

Scary Furnace beer blast

The Scary Furnace Halloween Party is planned for Saturday at the Carrie Blast Furnaces, 801 Carrie Furnace Blvd., Rankin.

Beers of the Burgh and Brew Gentlemen will host the eerie event under the looming smokestacks, featuring a fall beer mini-fest from 4 to 6 p.m., with seasonal offerings from 12 local breweries, along with a food and vendor market.

Beauty Slap, Title Town and local DJs will lay down the beats for a high-energy Halloween dance party beginning at 6 p.m.

Tickets for the entire day are $49 in advance, plus fees, and $60 on-site. Tickets for the dance party only are $29 in advance, plus fees, or $40 on-site. Attendees must be 21 or older; costumes are encouraged.

Historical hauntings

Family Lantern Tours will be offered from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Depreciation Lands Museum, 4743 S. Pioneer Road, Allison Park.

Visitors will tour the cemetery and village of Talley Cavey and learn about tall tales, superstitions, colorful figures and customs from the past. They might catch a glimpse of the Deacon, the resident, benevolent ghost, wandering the cemetery.

The one-hour tour, suitable for 7 and older, ends with refreshments in the Deacon’s Tavern.

Tickets must be prepurchased for a specific tour time at dlmuseum.org. Fee is $10, or $5 for children under 12.

Lift Every Voice

Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will host the fourth Duquesne Light Co. Lift Every Voice concert at 8 p.m. Saturday in Heinz Hall, 600 Penn Ave. in the Cultural District.

A celebration of dynamic contemporary artists, the program includes the world premiere of “As I Please,” a multimedia work commissioned by the PSO and inspired by women of the Hill District. Also featured is Jessie Montgomery’s “Strum for String Orchestra,” which musically animates the mural “Playing the Cosmic Strings” by local artists Mikael Owunna and Marques Redd.

Director Nikki Porter will lead the Lift Every Voice Unity Choir.

Tickets are $25 at 412-392-4900 or pittsburghsymphony.org.
