Quantum Theatre kicks off its 30th Anniversary season with a live, outdoor performance of Jay Ball’s “An Odyssey” at the Schenley Park Ice Skating Rink beginning Aug. 13.

We’ve made it to the weekend. Here are some ways to spend it.

Cheers to beers

The Pittsburgh Summer Beerfest is 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Stage AE on Pittsburgh’s North Side.

There will be more than 250 beers, ciders and seltzers from 90 breweries as well as food trucks and live music as well as karaoke. The event usually has 18,000 attendees.

Tickets are $50-$60.

Proceeds benefit Animal Rescue Partners and ‘Biggies Bullies of Pittsburgh.

Steel City Con

Steel City Con is at the Monroeville Convention Center Friday through Sunday. The event features artists, pop culture celebrities and enthusiasts.

Some of the celebrities scheduled to attend include horror icon Robert Englund who played Freddy Krueger; WWE Hall of Famer and Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle; Jon Bernthal of “The Walking Dead,”; David Harris of “The Warriors”; and Carl Weathers known for playing Apollo Creed in “Rocky.”

Schedules are subject to change.

Tickets are $23-$50.

Asian Lantern Festival

The Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium in Highland Park will host the Asian Lantern Festival from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday. The event includes animal-themed lantern installations. Guests can stroll through the zoo, dine on Asian-inspired dishes and see performances by artisans from the Organization of Chinese Americans and the Japan America Society of Pennsylvania.

Tickets are $19.95.

An odyssey

Quantum Theatre kicks off its 30th anniversary season with a live, outdoor performance of Jay Ball’s “An Odyssey” at the Schenley Park Ice Skating Rink.

The first performance is at 8 p.m. Friday followed by 8 p.m. shows Saturday and Sunday.

The rink is transformed into a Greek amphitheater. Quantum’s founder and artistic director Karla Boos says the production is “ contemporary, snappy, and very funny.”

Capacity for the show will be slightly reduced to allow space between chairs.

Tickets are $55.

Dine out

The semi-annual Pittsburgh Restaurant Week –summer edition— continues this weekend. It’s an opportunity to dine out and support struggling food establishments returning to business amid the pandemic.

Nearly 40 restaurants are participating and offering new menu items with some discounting meals from their standard fare.

Some feature outdoor seating.

Prices range from $20.21-$40.21.
