Moonlit Burgers set to open at Duquesne University
Moonlit Burgers is joining the list of eateries in and around Duquesne University.
The burger joint, famous for its thin and crispy-edged smash burgers, is set to open a second location Monday at 1015 Forbes Avenue on Duquesne University’s campus. It has another location in Dormont.
“We believe having Moonlit on campus will provide a great enhancement to our dining program and bring tremendous value to our campus environment,” Scott Richards, the university’s Assistant Vice President for Auxiliary Services, said.
Moonlit Burgers’ signature is the Classic Moonlit Double. Two beef patties, beginning in meatball formation, are smashed onto the grill and browned. The twin stack is placed on a soft Martin’s Potato Roll and piled high with griddled onions, American cheese, dill pickles, and Moon sauce (Duke’s mayonnaise, pickles, Dijon mustard, Sriracha, white vinegar, gochujang and sesame oil).
The eatery’s menu also boasts house-made chili, shoe-string chili cheese fries, a hot chicken sandwich, and local favorite Millie’s Ice Cream.
The original Moonlit Burgers in Dormont attracts customers from all over the Pittsburgh area. But with this new location, things will be a little different.
“A lot of guests that come are from outside the area. The new location is a bit more centralized, and Moonlit will be able to serve more people,” Mike McCoy, one of Moonlit Burger’s owners, said.
The excitement for Moonlit’s opening has been building for quite some time.

“When they first posted on Instagram announcing the campus location, there were a ton of great comments on both the university’s and Moonlit’s accounts,” Richards said.
A preview-type pop-up event that Moonlit held on the university’s campus immediately sold out, and newly accepted students have already made note of the restaurant’s upcoming arrival, Richards added.
This anticipation is mirrored on both sides.
“We’re excited about being in Uptown. We’re also excited about being a part of the Duquesne community and hope we will be for a long time,” McCoy said.
Moonlit will initially open Monday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout its first week. The following week, Moonlit Burgers will launch formally with their normal hours of 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
