Ligonier's popular 'Soup's On' is savory, sipping, shopping fun
Editor’s note: Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce is rescheduling its Soup’s On! event for April 18. Ticket holders who cannot attend on April 18 can contact the chamber office at 724-238-4200.
One pleasure among winter’s chill is the enjoyment of comfort foods, perhaps chief among them being soup.
As part of the Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce’s 11th annual Soup’s On! event, area chefs also get to show off their chops.
Planned from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. March 21 in downtown Ligonier, the event typically sells out early.
More than 20 local restaurants cook up creative gourmet-style concoctions for sampling at stops around the downtown area, with crawlers invited to cast votes for their favorites.
The soup receiving the most votes will again win the coveted golden ladle award, says Ruthie Stewart, chamber event and marketing coordinator.
A culinary team from the Eastern Westmoreland Career and Technology Center will be among those demonstrating their cooking skills.
“They swept the awards in the Pumpkin Spice event,” Stewart says. “These are your future chefs. Just the energy they bring to the event — they are so excited to be there.”
Stewart also encourages those enjoying the soup tour to visit the stores while they are tasting their way around town.
“This is a symbiotic event,” she says.
Tickets go on sale Feb. 18 and cost $20. Only 400 will be sold.
Tickets will not be sold over the phone. A limited number will be available for sale at the Ligonier Valley Chamber of Office, 120 E. Main St.
