KFC ready to test plant-based chicken
The world of alternative meat just got a bit bigger.
KFC, whose name is one-third meat, is joining the fray with some planet-based chicken, Business Insider reports.
The chain will team up with Beyond Meat to offer customers Beyond Fried Chicken.
It’s Kentucky Fried Chicken but it’s made with @BeyondMeat. It’s confusing, but it’s also delicious. Feast on these Kentucky Fried miracles tomorrow while they last at KFC in Atlanta, Georgia. pic.twitter.com/lC5oYM1cmk

But it’s only in the testing phase, and it’s only going to be available in one site: A restaurant in Smyrna, Ga., near Atlanta’s SunTrust Park.
“KFC Beyond Fried Chicken is so delicious, our customers will find it difficult to tell that it’s plant-based,” said Kevin Hochman, KFC’s chief concept officer. “I think we’ve all heard ‘it tastes like chicken’ — well our customers are going to be amazed and say, ‘it tastes like Kentucky Fried Chicken!’”
CNN reports the new products will come as nuggets or boneless wings — in six- or 12-piece combo meals. The wings will be $1 each, while the nuggets will be $6.49 for six and $8.49 for a dozen.
Business Insider reports the company has been testing vegetarian fried chicken in the U.K. for the past year.
