McDonald’s and its franchisees expect to hire about 10,650 workers at its roughly 1,000 Pennsylvania restaurants for the summer season.

That includes 450 new hires in Allegheny County, according to the company.

In addition, McDonald’s is partnering with AARP to post its U.S. restaurant job openings on the latter organization’s job board, which is for employers who are “committed to an age-diverse workforce and looking for experienced talent.”

McDonald’s USA said it also will work with the AARP Foundation on a pilot program that “aligns employer and candidate job needs and interests” through the foundation’s Senior Community Service Employment Program and BACK TO WORK 50+ workforce development programs. The pilot will start in Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and North Carolina before rolling out nationwide in the summer.

McDonald’s reported it has provided more than $3.1 million in tuition assistance and supported 1,469 restaurant workers in Pennsylvania through the company’s Archways to Opportunity program — for eligible employees who have worked for at least 90 days and 15 hours a week.

McDonald’s realized net income of about $5.9 billion last year, up from just under $5.2 billion in 2017, according to its 2018 annual report. The company added 614 restaurants in 2018, for a year-end total of 37,855.
