Mountain Playhouse cancels its upcoming productions
Mountain Playhouse in Jennerstown, Somerset County, has canceled its upcoming summer and fall productions.
“Unfortunately, it has become clear to the staff and board of directors that due to the ongoing concerns regarding (covid-19), the Mountain Playhouse cannot produce our 2020 season as planned,” said Patricia Carnevali, executive director and producer.
The season was set to open June 16 with “Honky Tonk Angels,” a musical by the creator of “Always, Patsy Kline” featuring country classics like “Stand By Your Man,” “These Boots Are Made for Walking” and “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”
“All possibilities and outcomes have been weighed, but we strongly believe that the health and safety of our company members, volunteers and you – our patrons - is our first priority, followed by ensuring the success of our beloved 81-year-old theater organization,” she said.
The shows planned for 2020 — “Honky Tonk Angels,” “Perfect Wedding,” “Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story,” “Popcorn Falls,” “RIPCORD” and “Sanders Family Christmas” — will be presented in the same order in 2021, if possible.
“We are working to transfer the licenses and secure new dates,” Carnevali said. Details will be shared as they become available.
“During this intermission, we will be posting and emailing updates and messages from company members, as well as some creative projects that will tide you over until next June,” she said.
