Stone Temple Pilots will perform on Sept. 21 at Stage AE along with Rival Sons as part of their first co-headlining U.S. tour.

Stone Temple Pilots and Rival Sons are sharing the love as they recently kicked off their first co-headlining U.S. tour.

“We are thrilled about this tour and grateful to share these upcoming shows with Rival Sons,” says STP guitarist Dean DeLeo. “A great band! They don’t make them like this anymore. Looking forward to seeing all of you.”

Guitar player Scott Holiday of Rival Sons returned the compliment, noting that “these guys (STP) wrote some of the soundtrack to my childhood … and it’ll be killer to watch and listen to ‘em hit these gems every night!’”

The 12-city tour that runs through Oct. 9, produced by Live Nation, includes a concert date Sept. 21 at Stage AE in Pittsburgh that will feature full sets from each of the two rock bands.

Stone Temple Pilots

Stone Temple Pilots members Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo (bass guitar), Eric Kretz (drums) are celebrating the 25th anniversary this fall of their multi-platinum 1994 album, “Purple,” with a newly remastered 3-CD/1-LP set featuring unreleased studio and live recordings due out in October.

The band released its seventh studio album, the self-titled “Stone Temple Pilots” in 2018, their first with new lead singer, Jeff Gutt. The album’s debut single “Meadow,” reached the top 5 at Rock Radio, prompting All Music Guide to note that “they haven’t lost their knack for hook-heavy hard rock that wedges its way into the subconscious.”

STP was formed in 1992 by bassist Robert DeLeo and late vocalist Scott Weiland, who died at age 48 in 2015. The band’s sound has been compared to that of Led Zeppelin and the Doors. Their hits include “Sex Type Thing,” “Wicked Garden” and their Grammy Award-winning single, “Plush.”

Rival Sons

Rival Sons, out of Long Beach, Calif., has been together since 2009, with six albums and one EP to its credit. The band has been the supporting act for Deep Purple and Black Sabbath on tour and released its sixth studio album, “Feral Roots,” in January of this year.

The album features the number-one Rock Radio hit, “Do Your Worst,” which Rolling Stone referred to as “a relentless rocker with a gritty verse spearheaded by a sinister lead guitar riff and thumping drums. The track takes a deft turn when it hits the chorus, forgoing out-and-out guitar bombast for rousing gang vocals with singer Jay Buchanan leading the charge.”

Members include Jay Buchanan (vocals), Scott Holiday (guitar), Dave Beste (bass guitar) and Mike Miley (drums).
