Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa tour coming to Pittsburgh area
Two rappers with Pittsburgh connections are bringing their tour to the area this summer.
Wiz Khalifa, who was grew up in Pittsburgh, and Snoop Dogg, a self-professed member of Steeler Nation, will visit the Pavilion at Star Lake on July 18 as part of the High School Reunion Tour. Also on the show are Too $hort, Warren G and Berner.
Khalifa moved to Pittsburgh as a child and graduated from Pittsburgh’s Taylor Allderdice High School in 2006. His song “Black and Yellow” pays tribute to the city.
“It’s for the city of Pittsburgh,” Khalifa told ESPN in 2010. “I’m from Pittsburgh, got that hometown pride so it’s good to represent. It’s not just for the Steelers, it’s for the Pirates and the Penguins and everything Pittsburgh. There’s nowhere like Pittsburgh.”
Snoop Dogg’s love of Pittsburgh is well-documented, from wearing Pittsburgh Penguins jerseys in videos to performing at a Super Bowl party while wearing Pittsburgh Steelers gear. His love for the city dates back to his childhood.
“I loved Mean Joe Greene. I loved Donnie Shell, I loved Jack Lambert, I loved Jack Ham. I loved Rocky Bleier, the old-school fullback to open up the hole. I loved Lynn Swann with his ballet catches on the sideline. John Stallworth. I mean, I just loved the whole get-down, the way we played,” Snoop Dogg said while talking with Peyton and Eli Manning last year. “We played with a spirit, it was a spirit of ‘We love to win and we hate to lose.’ It’s something about a spirit of a team that can rub off onto the fan base and that’s what happened. It rubbed off on me in the 70s, to where it’s 2022 and I’m still a Steelers fan like it was 1975.”
Snoop Dogg and Khalifa teamed up earlier this month for a new song, “Don’t Text Don’t Call.”
Tickets go on sale with artist and Citi presales on March 7, with general tickets available starting at 9 a.m. March 10 at ticketmaster.com.
