Rob Thomas brings his ‘Chip Tooth Tour’ to Benedum Center in August.

Matchbox Twenty frontman and solo vocalist Rob Thomas is taking his Chip Tooth Tour across North America, including a Aug. 27 stop at Pittsburgh’s Benedum Center.

The Grammy award winning singer/songwriter is touring in support of his fourth solo album, Chip Tooth Smile.

“Chip Tooth Smile is vintage Thomas — smart songwriting, excellent pop-rock craftsmanship, eclectic and at times moving, at times, fun, and always solid,” according to Forbes.

The 12-track collection features production from Butch Walker (Panic! At The Disco, Pink) and Benny Blanco (Ed Sheeran).

Lead single “One Less Day (Dying Young)” is charting in the top 15, with Billboard calling it “one of the boldest singles released so far this year.”

Fan club pre-sale access for the second leg of the tour begins at 10 a.m. May 29, with public sale starting at 10 a.m. May 31. Each online ticket purchase includes a digital download of the new album.

Thomas’ solo hits include “Lonely No More,” “This Is How A Heart Breaks,” and “Streetcorner Symphony,” while Matchbox Twenty favorites include “Push,” “3AM,” “If You’re Gone” and “Bent.”

In 2004, Thomas was the first artist to be honored with the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s prestigious “Hal David Starlight Award,” created to recognize a composer in the early years of his or her career who already has made a lasting impact.

His 2005 solo debut, “…Something To Be” made history as the first album by a male artist from a rock or pop group to debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200. His sophomore solo album, 2009’s “Cradlesong,” generated two number singles, “Her Diamonds” and “Someday.”

An animal rights philanthropist, Thomas established Sidewalk Angels Foundation with his wife, Marisol Thomas, in 2003, to provide funding and support to more than 20 no-kill animal shelters and animal rescues across the country.
