Madonna will bring 40 years of her greatest hits to Pittsburgh as part of her “Madonna: The Celebration Tour.”
The best-selling female solo touring artist of all time comes to PPG Paints Arena on Aug. 7. It will be her third stop in Pittsburgh, having performed at the Civic Arena in 1985 (“Virgin” tour) and Consol Energy Center in 2012 (“MDNA” tour).
The North American leg of the 35-city global tour will kick off July 15 in Vancouver, Canada, and includes stops in Detroit, Chicago, New York, Miami and Los Angeles. Madonna then will hit 11 European cities throughout the fall, wrapping up Dec. 1 in Amsterdam.
“I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for,” Madonna said in a statement.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Jan. 27 at madonna.com.
Citi cardmembers will have access to pre-sale tickets from 10 a.m. Jan. 24 through 6 p.m. Jan. 26 at citientertainment.com.
The tour name gives a nod to “Celebration,” a song Madonna recorded for an album of the same name, her third greatest hits album released in 2009.
Sometimes dubbed the “Queen of Pop,” Madonna rose to fame with her 1983 self-titled debut album, which included the hits “Borderline” and “Lucky Star.” Her chart-topping singles include “Like a Virgin,” “La Isla Bonita,” “Like a Prayer” and “Vogue.”
The sexual and political themes for videos of songs like “Open Your Heart” and “Like a Prayer” have brought her both condemnation and critical acclaim.
Madonna has earned seven Grammy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, five Billboard Music Awards and 20 MTV Video Music Awards. “Rolling Stone” includes her on its lists of greatest songwriters and artists of all time.
She also has delved into acting, fashion design and writing.
Special guest on all tour dates will be Caldwell Tidicue, known as Bob the Drag Queen.
Legacy members of Madonna’s official fan club also will have a pre-sale opportunity from 10 a.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Jan. 25 on the singer’s website.
