Daya's 'Insomnia' video shows rave culture, Mt. Lebanon singer's heartache

Mt. Lebanon native pop star Daya (Grace Tandon), 20, is premiering the music video for her most recent hit song, “Insomnia.”

The Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum singer/songwriter’s video is being shown upon release in Manhattan’s Times Square.

Daya’s new release shows her outside a dance club, unable to join in the rave culture’s partying while missing her love.

She eventually moves inside the club, pulsing with strobe lights and music, and begins singing to the crowd.

The video highlights her latest release for Interscope records.

“‘Insomnia’ at its core is a gritty club pop anthem about missing the person you love, so it felt appropriate to take the visuals in a rave direction in a grimy abandoned warehouse that feels like something you’d stumble into at 3 a.m. in Berlin to temporarily neglect whatever pain you’re feeling,” Daya says in a release.

“Nick Harwood (director) took this vision and perfectly brought it to life by adding intense strobe lighting and other atmospheric elements to capture these flickering moments of desperation and loneliness, even amidst a seemingly lively, crowded setting,” she adds.

“Insomnia” has been added to Spotify’s playlist globally, Today’s Top Hits and has moved up to the number one slot on Pop Rising this week.

“Insomnia,” laced with a hypnotic beat behind Daya’s trademark vocals, was written by Daya, Oscar Görres, J Kash and Michael Pollack and produced by Görres.
