Latrobe Art Center open show features artists of all ages
A reception for the annual open show is planned for 6-8 p.m. June 13 in the Latrobe Art Center, 819 Ligonier St.
The show is open to submissions from amateur and professional artists, ages 3 and up, from around Southwestern Pennsylvania. This year’s show includes more than 200 entries from 85 artists.
“This is the one time each year that artists who are not regular exhibiting artists at our gallery can show off their skills to the Greater Latrobe community,” says center director Lauren Buches. “To see a 5-year-old aspiring artist’s colored pencil drawing in the same space as a professional artist’s watercolor may give that child a chance to dream of what they can one day become if they keep creating art.”
The reception will feature light bites, drinks and an awards ceremony at 7:15 p.m.
Awards will be presented in open, amateur, college, junior and young artist divisions. Latrobe Art League will also award two cash prizes, one to a professional artist and one to a student artist.
Juror is Lauren Scavo-Fulk, a recent master of fine arts graduate from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her work has shown at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg, Penn State New Kensington and Altoona campuses, Sweetwater Center for the Arts in Sewickley, Dacia Gallery in New York City and Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati.
