You Are Here Gallery in Jeannette is seeking applicants for its new Weekly Featured Artist online showcase. Here, gallery founders Mary Briggs and Jen Costello are seen at a 2018 reception in the gallery.

You Are Here gallery in Jeannette is seeking applications for its artist of the week program.

The new website feature is designed to introduce artists to the community and to help them promote their work during the coronavirus-related shutdown.

“For many artists, unless they have a side gig, their artwork is a significant part of what they do for income,” said gallery co-founder Mary Briggs.

With galleries closed, it can be difficult for artists to keep their work in the public eye, she said.

First to be featured in the weekly series are the gallery’s resident artists Jen Palmer, Natalie Condrac and Liana Ankney.

The artist features contain brief biographies, samples of work and links to sites where work can be purchased.

“The covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on the livelihood of all artists, especially artists operating locally in their home communities. In response, YAH is instituting Weekly Featured Artist on social media, and an Artist Roster on our website yah406clay.org,” gallery staff says. “Both are open to artists of all genres — visual, performing, literary, etc. — who exhibit, sell, perform, publish or teach. Each week a different artist will be featured on our Facebook and Instagram account, and on an Artist Roster page on our website.

Artist information will be maintained on the website after the week-long feature on social media has passed.

“YAH is providing this service at no cost to our arts community. Our mission is to connect artists directly with students and supporters. Financial agreements are made exclusively between artists and their customers or students. YAH will receive no commission on moneys earned or donated through this service,” the gallery says.
