Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and MuseumLab will offer 10 weeks of children’s virtual summer camps and studios.

Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and MuseumLab will offer 10 weeks of virtual summer camps and studios for children ages 3-13.

Registration is open for Summer Camps @ Home and Summer Studios @ Home, week-long programs starting June 15.

Each week will focus on a different theme and learning goals. Camp size is limited so that participants can receive individualized instruction. The sessions will be taught through a secure online portal.

“We are excited to offer online courses that are taught in real time by our educators. It was a difficult decision to cancel in person summer camps, but we are following the guidance of local, state, and federal authorities to protect the health and wellness of our visitors, members, staff and community,” said Chip Lindsey, senior director of education. “There is a giant need for engaging and safe children’s programs this summer, and we want to provide high quality content that is fun, creative and builds skills.”

Camps include:

Explorer Camps for ages 3-6

Explore senses, materials and ideas with a week of morning activities and prompts, socialization and an age-appropriate amount of screen time. Weekly topics include sunshine, opposites, movement and dance, the garden and squishy things. A caregiver is required for activities. Fee is $125 per week per child.

Adventurer Camps for ages 7-10

Venture into the unknown to explore tools, materials and ideas. Includes three 2-hour, on-screen workshops each week for instruction and socialization, and challenges and prompts for independent exploration. Weekly topics include geometric design, sewing, animation, sculpture, printmaking, ‘zines and illuminating 2-D art. Fee is $150 per week per child.

Summer Youth Studios for ages 11-13

Independently explore subjects in a deeper way with two 2-hour, on-screen workshops each week for instruction and socialization, and optional on-screen support for independent prompts and challenges. Weekly topics include postal art, fabric printing, dance, animation, crankies and ‘zines. Fee is $150 per week per child.

Museum members receive 15% off registration fees.

All camps include supplies that can be picked up at the Children’s Museum in Pittsburgh’s North Side before the week of camp, or delivered to participants’ homes for an additional fee.

Everyone who registered for the museum’s in-person camps this summer can transfer registration fees to one or more virtual camp registrations, can receive a refund of registration fees or can opt to donate fees to the museum.

The museum encourages early registration, as demand for camps is currently high and they are likely to fill up. Registration will close in advance of start dates, so that supplies to be delivered or picked up prior.

Those needing to cancel a registration should note that the museum requires at least seven days’ notice in advance of a camp to provide a full refund.
