Bushy Run offers new Wilderness Day experience
Feeling wild?
Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society has the answer — Wilderness Day.
Described by museum officials as a hands-on experience, the June 15 event will take place outdoors and offer participants activities reflecting life in the wilderness.
The program is open to students ages 10-13, with an accompanying adult. Both will take part in activities including building small shelters, sewing mattresses, churning butter, washing clothes, cooking over an open fire and going on a nature walk.
“Here at Bushy Run, we have been searching for new, innovative ways to engage kids in this particular age group with 18th-century history and culture,” says Michael Tusay, museum facilitator.
“This new Wilderness Day event accomplishes just that and allows kids to be involved hands-on in colonial wilderness living. We are especially excited to finally have the opportunity to expose visitors to a different area of our park and introduce them to our renovated colonial log cabin,” he says.
The day’s activities run 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Rain date is June 22. The $15 fee includes lunch. Registration is required by June 1.
