Trib Total Media TV writer Rob Owen answers reader questions every Wednesday at TribLive.com in a column that also appears in the Sunday Tribune-Review.

Q: I turned KDKA-TV on as a newscast was concluding at 7 p.m. Dec. 2. There was a new female anchor with Kym Gable. Who is she, what is her name and background? Also, has Kym Gable finally been given a contract by KDKA?

— Elaine, via email

Rob: Gable remains a freelancer by choice at KDKA.

The new face Elaine saw is Erica Mokay, who I reported as a new hire for KDKA, along with Latrobe native Chris DeRose, in October.

Belle Vernon native Mokay is a 2012 West Virginia University grad and former KDKA-TV intern. She’s been hired to report weekend evenings and three weekdays and to sub as a fill-in anchor on occasion. She arrived at KDKA from WWMT-TV in Kalamazoo, Mich., where she was an anchor/reporter. She previously worked at WTOV-TV in Steubenville, which offered her a job before she graduated from WVU.

Q: What’s going on with “Glass Onion,” the “Knives Out” sequel? My son saw it in a theater, but it seems to be gone already. IMDb says it will be in theatres Dec. 23 and I read an article saying it was going straight to Netflix. I’d like to see it in the theater over the holidays. Is it coming back to theaters or is IMDb listing it in upcoming release just an error or plug to see it on Netflix?

— Leo, via email

Rob: Netflix has no current interest in the theatrical distribution business except to use it as a promotional opportunity in advance of a film streaming on Netflix and to throw a bone to directors who like their movies to play in theaters.

The one-week-only “Glass Onion” theatrical release was just a stunt in advance of the film’s Dec. 23 premiere on Netflix with the company perfectly willing to leave millions of dollars on the table that it could have gotten out of a longer theatrical run.

Q: Do you have any idea if any of these TLC shows are coming back for another season: “Bad Hair Day,” “Body Parts,” “Extreme Sisters,” “Outdaughtered” and “Unexpected”?

— Sherry, Murrysville

Rob: “Extreme Sisters” returns at 9 p.m. Jan. 23.

A TLC publicist did not respond to questions about the status of the other series. The stars of “Outdaughtered” claim their show hasn’t been canceled, but is taking a break.

Q: Why is the “Drew Barrymore Show” now in two half-hour segments? It was a one-hour show. My DVR records it as two different shows now.

— Sue, Natrona Heights

Rob: It is unusual, but seemed like a worthwhile experiment this season because it gives stations more flexibility. If they only have space for a half-hour show, they can still run half of “Drew Barrymore,” whereas before they just couldn’t air the program at all.

TheWrap.com reported ratings for the show were up 60% earlier this fall with the two half-hour format compared to last season’s one-hour telecast.
