TV Q&A: Where can I see new ‘Judge Judy’ episodes?
Trib Total Media TV writer Rob Owen answers reader questions every Wednesday at TribLive.com in a column that also appears in the Sunday Tribune-Review.
Q: Does any station in Pittsburgh carry new episodes of “Judge Judy”?
– Mike, Whitehall
Rob: Channel 11 continues to carry “Judge Judy” reruns at 3 and 3:30 p.m. on weekdays but no new “Judge Judy” episodes are being made or aired on linear TV anywhere. “Judge Judy” is over.
However, I reported in October that “Judge Judy” star Judy Sheindlin has a “new” series, “Judy Justice,” which is on free, ad-supported streaming service IMDb TV. It’s basically the same show with some minor tweaks (her robe is now burgundy, not black). “Judy Justice” returned from a winter hiatus on Jan. 24 and is back to releasing new episodes each weekday.
Q: Just wondering where Ross Guidotti has been as he hasn’t been on the Westmorland beat for quite a while now?
– Marti via email
Rob: Guidotti had been off since having extensive surgery on his right arm in mid-November. He returned to work Jan. 20.
Q: Why is Andrew Fillipponi no longer doing the two-to-three minute quickie sports segments on Channel 2 news at 4 p.m.? I respect miss his insights.
– Linda, via email
Rob: My understanding is with new competition from WTAE and WPXI newscasts at 4 p.m., KDKA opted to readjust the content of its 4 p.m. newscast late last year. Usually, if a segment helps the ratings, it is retained; if it does not help the ratings, it may be jettisoned. There are now so many other ways to get sports news beyond newscasts — newsletters, podcasts, etc. — that the way local TV stations present sports news has changed, too.
Fillipponi continues to appear on KDKA’s “Nightly Sports Call” and on “#1 Cochran Sports Showdown” on Sundays.
Q: I thought I read that Comcast and the ACCN had finally come to an agreement to televise ACCN games. If so, when will Comcast begin carrying the ACCN? All of us Pitt fans are missing a lot of games.
– Bob, Delmont
Rob: I reported ACCN joined the Comcast lineup in December.
ACCN is on Comcast’s expanded basic, sports + news and Latino starter levels of service as Channel 1325 in HD. The easiest way to access the channel is by speaking the channel name into the X1 voice remote. ACCN will be available in standard definition on Channel 263 in Pittsburgh and many suburbs, 268 in Greensburg/McKeesport/Weirton, 281 in Blairsville/Indiana, 263 or 268 in Steubenville and 420 in Clarion.
Q: I want to watch season one of “B Positive” and only find it on Amazon Prime for a fee per episode. Why no DVD release? Can I see it at no cost somewhere?
– Peter, via Facebook
Rob: The DVD is a dying format and studios are not putting every show out on DVD anymore, as most viewers have made the switch to streaming. Season one of “B Positive” is available for streaming purchase, as Peter noted.
I found all season-two episodes of “B Positive” on subscription streamer Paramount+ and the five most recent season-two episodes available for free on CBS.com but the first season was only available for purchase, same as if the show had been released on DVD.
By the way, earlier this month, Warner Bros., the show’s production company, released a full, three-minute version of the show’s theme song performed by star Annaleigh Ashford. It’s a great little tune.
