Cooks, or wannabe cooks, suddenly homebound due to the coronavirus pandemic can learn from the queen of television cooking.

Julia Child’s cooking show, “The French Chef,” is still a fond memory for many who watched the live tapings.

Child’s distinctive voice, easy-to-follow instructions and ability to laugh at her own mistakes gives even novice cooks the confidence to prepare delicious and elegant foods.

PBS is currently offering viewers the free Julia Child Video Collection. The network is also streaming “The French Chef” through its membership PBS Living Service.

The show also is available through Amazon Prime Video for Prime members.

Select full-length episodes are being shown, including a few early “The French Chef” episodes, along with interviews and behind-the-scenes clips.

Child, at 6-feet, 2-inches tall, sometimes towers over her guest chefs, many of whom are men. She also is a self-deprecating cook, often playing with food, sometimes making raw chickens and lobsters dance.
