While awaiting the Sept. 20 theatrical release of “Downton Abbey,” local residents can slip on their long, white gloves, don their fanciest clothes and indulge in high tea at the Historic Loucks Homestead in Scottdale.

The Scottdale Historical Society will host its fifth Downton Abbey Tea fundraiser with two seatings, at noon and 3 p.m., on Sept. 15 at the home, 527 N. Chestnut St.

Volunteers and board members — many wearing wait staff uniforms — will prepare and serve a four-course menu including fall harvest soup, assorted finger sandwiches, scones and finishes, assorted pastries and “Downton Abbey” teas, organizers say.

“People do not leave hungry,” says Ian Yuhouse, board vice president.

“We have not held (the tea) in the past couple of years. But with the release of the movie coming out in a few weeks, we thought we would offer this as a bit of a teaser,” he says.

Coming three years after the long-running PBS British historical period drama’s conclusion, the film’s release has excited its legions of fans.

“A lot of people who attended the tea in the past wanted to know when the next one would be. So there was some demand to do this again,” Yuhouse says.

The tea also will include a basket auction, tea-themed cookbooks and special favors for all attendees. Dress for this event is casual, but guests are welcome to arrive in period attire.

“We have had some guests in the past dressed in their finest Victorian wear. Some are in the ‘Sunday best,’” Yuhouse says.

Tickets are $25. Reservations are required and seating is limited, Yuhouse says.
