A North Versailles movie theater that’s served as a town hub for several decades will close in September.
The final day for movies at Phoenix Theatres 18, which sits along Lincoln Highway, will be Labor Day.
“We know many people have memories of coming to the theatre on dates, family gatherings, special occasions and just to enjoy a good movie,” Phoenix President Phil Zacheretti said in a news release.
“We appreciate all the patrons who have supported us over the years and hope they might come back in the next few weeks to enjoy one last movie with us.”
Zacheretti said the theater hasn’t been able to sustain post-pandemic success.
A mix of the dwindling customer base and increased costs led to the decision to close.
Zacheretti also said Hollywood studios are releasing fewer titles which limits the variety of films for customers.
Current staffers will be offered positions at the company’s location along Washington Pike in Bridgeville.
People with gift cards can use them in Bridgeville or request a refund through a link on the website.
“We thank our customers for allowing us to bring the movie magic into their lives,” Zacheretti said.
Phoenix Theatres is based in Knoxville, Tenn. and is the world’s largest movie theatre management company.
It currently manages or owns 126 screens at 12 locations in 10 states.
The adjoining Altimate Air Trampoline Park in North Versailles has been closed since the outset of the covid pandemic. There are no plans for it to reopen, Zacheretti said.
