Baby Shark to get TV show on Nickelodeon
Get ready Mom and Dad, the most earworm-iest song in the world is headed for TV.
Nickelodeon has inked a deal with the creators of “Baby Shark” to turn the tune into an animated series animated series. The company also announced it has agreed to a licensing deal to distribute merchandise globally, excluding Asia.
“At the heart of any popular piece of content is a terrific character, and we have a great opportunity to further explore the world of Baby Shark and follow this family through some great animated adventures on Nickelodeon,” says Ramsey Naito, Nickelodeon Animation’s Executive Vice President.
“Baby Shark,” created by South Korean brand Pinkfong (and its parent company Smart Study), became a viral sensation via YouTube in November 2015, amassing 2.9 billion views — making it the ninth most-watched video in YouTube’s history.
It inspired the #BabySharkChallenge, which had people filming themselves lip-syncing the song while getting out of their slow-moving car and dancing along. (Cue eyeroll.)
Now that a series is planned, we assume the next “challenge” will be for parents to make it through their day with hair still on their heads.
