Whether self quarantining or just Netflix-and-chilling, people apparently are turning to pandemic and contagion movies to get through the coronavirus outbreak crisis.
Steven Soderbergh’s 2011 movie “Contagion” starring Gwyneth Paltrow (for a few minutes), Matt Damon, Jude Law, Laurence Fishburne, Kate Winslet, which tells a fictional account of a quickly spreading virus that kills 26 million people worldwide is getting new attention.
The New York Times reported that Warner Bros. said that since the beginning of the year, “Contagion” has jumped to second among it catalog titles. The movie is also trending on Amazon Prime Video and iTunes where it is available to rent.
The movie is not easily available to stream. It is not on Netflix, Hulu or Prime (except thru a Cinemax subscription.)
The movie follows the spread of a virus which public health officials can’t manage to contain which creates social havoc and kills millions. Spoiler alert: a vaccine is ultimately created to stop the virus.
If you’re interested in other pandemic, or zombie movies, Vulture posted a list of 58 movies to check out.
While it might not be best to gather in large group, Slate is holding a screening of “Contagion” in Washington, D.C. this month, if you’re so inclined.
Here’s the trailer.
