The Wally Gingers Orchestra performs as part of the 67th annual summer band concert series, held at the Ligonier Diamond on Sunday evening, June 26, 2016.

The Roaring ’20s of a century past will meet the 2020s during a retro dinner dance March 7 at Ferrante’s Lakeview in Hempfield.

Those attending are encouraged to dress in Prohibition-era attire while enjoying a buffet dinner and dancing to the sounds of the Wally Gingers Orchestra.

The event is scheduled from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Tickets cost $35; visit facebook.com/TWGOBB or call 412-670-3233. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Raffles will benefit the Westmoreland County Food Bank.

The evening will include a performance by local dance instructor Chris Drum, who will offer a free lesson in Charleston dance steps.

The Wally Gingers Orchestra, based in New Stanton and Connellsville, will perform dance music from the 1920s to the 1940s. The band’s history stretches back to the late 1930s, when, under the leadership of founder George E. Tajc, it drew large crowds to the Ivory Ballroom in Uniontown.

After World War II put the band on hold, it returned in the 1950s to play at such venues as the Roseland Ballroom in New York City and the Sunnybrook Ballroom in eastern Pennsylvania while also making weekly radio broadcasts.
