'Icy Lights' winter block party premieres in Oakland in March
Street curling in Pittsburgh?
The Oakland Business Improvement District promises that sport and other entertainment during its first winter-themed block party, “Icy Lights,” from 4-10 p.m. on March 1.
Set for the central business district, on Oakland Avenue between Forbes Avenue and Sennott Street, the event will showcase the neighborhood’s newest festival style lighting installation, spanning Oakland Avenue.
Also planned are live bands, a DJ, live ice carving, and, for the first time in Pittsburgh planning officials say, street curling along a 30-foot-long track on Oakland Avenue.
Pittsburgh sibling curlers Alexander and Nicholas Visnich will teach curling technique. Visitors can organize a team and get into the rink to compete or watch celebrity competitions throughout the day.
Warming lounge areas will offer complimentary beverages. Additional food and libations may be purchased. Prize giveaways will be announced each hour.
