'Stranger Things' releases 2nd half of Season 4; Netflix temporarily crashes
Fans of Netflix’s “Stranger Things” have about four hours of new content to enjoy this holiday weekend — if they don’t overwhelm the streaming service.
The much-anticipated second installment of the fourth season of the hit show came out at midnight Friday.
Netflix users reported that the streaming service crashed as the newest “Stranger Things” episodes went live.
“Stranger Things 4” has already become the most popular season of English-language television series Netflix has ever seen, Variety reported. It’s Netflix’s second-most popular series overall, only to the South Korean drama “Squid Game,” which was released last year.
The first portion of Season 4 debuted May 27, including the first seven episodes of the season.
Spoiler warning: The following contains details about what viewers can expect to see in the second segment of Season 4.
The science fiction horror drama was created by the Duffer Brothers and stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown.
Netflix describes the show, which was first released in July 2016, as a “nostalgic nod to ’80s sci-fi and horror classics.” It has earned dozens of Emmy nominations.
Set in the 1980s in the fictional town of Hawkins, Ind., the series features supernatural and paranormal elements, including a parallel universe called the Upside Down.
Hours after the second segment of Season 4 aired, Vanity Fair reported that the season’s last episodes leave the fictional town in a “dark place.”
According to Vanity Fair, the season finale includes an “extended battle” that leaves a few major characters dead.
The latest season also offers revelations about the villain Vecna’s origin story, Vanity Fair said.
